Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups mixed dried fruit such as raisins, currants, chopped dates, and candied fruit peel
  • 1 cup chopped nuts such as almonds, walnuts, or pecans
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup milk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease and flour a loaf or Bundt pan.
  • Combine dried fruit and nuts in a bowl. Toss with 1/4 cup flour until evenly coated.
  • Cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time.
  • Sift remaining flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Gradually add to creamed mixture, alternating with milk.
  • Fold in fruit and nut mixture. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 60-70 minutes.
  • Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Allow the fruitcake to sit at room temperature for several days to develop flavors.
