Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • Combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth.
  • Add hot coffee, stir until smooth. Divide batter evenly between pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  • Let cakes cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Heat heavy cream, pour over chocolate chips and butter. Let sit, then stir until smooth. Let cool to spreadable consistency.
  • Assemble cake with ganache frosting and optional fudgy sauce. Let set before serving.
